Cross-Border Thematic Event in Serres!

Culture, tourism and gastronomy were the main topics of discussion in the thematic event which attracted more than 350 participants on the 16th of May 2019 in Serres. Organised by the Ministry of the Interior (Sector Macedonia & Thrace), the event was implemented in the framework of the project Borderless Culture with the participation of the project partners.

The meeting kicked off with the official speech of the Deputy Minister of the Interior (Sector Macedonia & Thrace), Mrs. Eleftheria Chatzigeorgiou. The majority of the participants were representatives of local and regional authorities, professionals of culture, tourism and gastronomy, students and professors of the public institutes of vocational training, as well as citizens of the Greek-Bulgarian cross-border area.

During the Scientific Conference of Tourism-Culture (PART A), the key points of discussion were the promotion of cultural, environmental and tourist resources of the cross-border area and the modern challenges and prospects for sustainable tourism development.

Representatives from the Directorate of Prehistoric & Classical Antiquities (Ministry of Culture & Sports) and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Serres presented the works for the promotion of the ancient city of Amphipolis. Later on, Dr. Roussi Bozkova presented the main tourist destinations in South-west Bulgaria. The second thematic section concerned the tourist opportunities for development in Northern Greece, analyzing thematic routes, tourist packages, European good practices, accessible cultural assets and the new era of digitalization.

The event was concluded with the Thematic Gastronomy Presentation and the Live Cooking Event where two chefs from Greece and Bulgaria, assisted by gastronomy students of Serres, prepared and presented recipes based on local products and traditional gastronomy of the cross-border area.

Balkan Games Festival!

On the 4th & 5th of May 2019, the International Folk Festival “Balkan games” gathered hundreds of citizens and visitors in Blagoevgrad. During the two days, an attractive procession of traditional bulgarian costumes announced the start of the Balkan games at the central streets of the city with parade of dance, vocal and Kukeri’s groups from Bulgaria and Greece.

The Balkan Games Festival gave us the opportunity to meet the authentic folklore heritage of Bulgaria and Greece, presented by Bulgarian and Greek dancing ensambles and formations. The Festival’s program, which was full of activities,  contained educational and entertaiment games for young and elder balkanians, parades, festival performances, combined with curious craft demonstrations and exciting games and entertaiment for every age, showing the ethno-cultural rhythm of the Balkans.

On the 4th and the 5th of May 2019, Blagoevgrad will be the arena of large festival events that will attract the residents and guests of the city with lavish folklore spectacles showing the ethnocultural rhythm of the Balkans, in combination with fascinating craft demonstrations, educational games and exciting competitions and entertainment for all ages.

The International Folklore Festival „Balkan Games” will be held for the first time and through it visitors will be able to grasp in a new way the cultural heritage of Bulgaria and Greece!

The festival aims to promote the unique cultural and historical heritage of authentic Bulgarian and Greek folklore through dances, songs, interpretations of customs, traditional dishes, folklore games, folk costumes and musical instruments that will enrich the ambience of the city.

2nd Project Meeting

The Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports / General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage / Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities organized the 2nd project meeting within the approved project “Integrating Bulgaria-Greece cross-border significance historical and archeological assets into one sustainable thematic tourist destination – BORDERLESS CULTURE”, supported by Cooperation Programme “INTERREG V-A Greece-Bulgaria” 2014 – 2020.
The 2nd project meeting was hosted in the Hall number 125 of the building of the Ministry of Interior (Sector Macedonia & Thrace) Dioikitirio, Thessaloniki, Greece on Wednesday 10/10/2018. The 2nd project started at 10:00 and ended at 13:00.
The project involves the following participants:

Project beneficiary 2: Ministry of Interior (Sector of Macedonia – Thrace)

Project beneficiary 4: Faculty of Arts, South-West University “Neofit Rilski” (Bulgaria)
Project beneficiary 5: Municipality of Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria)
Project beneficiary 6: Region of Central Macedonia
Project beneficiary 7: Life Long Learning Level 2 Center of Region of Central Macedonia Regional Unit of Serres

At the beginning of the project meeting, Mr Kyriakos Fotiadis, Coordinator of Joint Secretariat, welcomed project beneficiaries’ representatives and mentioned that the scope of the technical meeting is to be discussed the progress and the possible problems of project implementation. Also, all project partners’ representatives introduce themselves and welcomed each other.
During the meeting, all project beneficiaries representatives reported the tender procedures that have completed as well as the progress of the rest tenders that are going to be announced and the dates of the up-coming tenders updating the STPP. Moreover, they presented the progress of their deliverables implementation presenting the deliverables and activities that have already implemented and explained the reasons of possible delays. Specifically, each project partner analyzed and described in detail its deliverables to the other partners, which are going to implement within the Project.
Furthermore, it was specified certain actions within the Project deliverables as foreseen in the Application Form in force as well as it was discussed project’ future steps. All project partners’ representatives discussed and planned the time framework for the events’ organization as well as the content of the events and their technical specifications. Finally, all participants discussed with each other and had the opportunity to solve their questions which arose during the presentations.
